VW's Citi Golf

In the twenty-five years of VW’s Citi Golf it have been reinvented and redesigned more times than anyone can remember. But to date the new R-line is probably one of the most radical Citi yet. The Citi is being dressed as a hot rod and in coping with the long tradition for quality of Volkswagen the Citi Golf will be equipped with high quality vw parts such as the infamous vw brake dust shield which is designed as a protective cover to minimize wear and tear that comes with daily driving.

If AMG is to Mercedes and MSport is to BMW, the R-line branding is for Volkswagen. Later this year the German automaker will present its new R32 Golf that thinks it’s a Porsche. Unfortunately there’s some good news and bad news. The good news is that the R115 920 is branded as the most affordable performance car in the country. The bad news however is that only 100 will be available so better scoot down to your local VW dealer quick for reservation.

The new R-line produces 90kW at 5900rpm, five more than the original hot-hatch, Mk.I Golf GTi. To give the R-line power Volkswagen has taken a fuel-injected 1.8-litre Golf engine and beefed it up with different camshafts, crankshaft, con rods and pistons.
In terms of exterior designing the R-line Citi is restrained the body kit runs to nicely proportioned front and rear spoilers and sills. It is also equipped with slightly lower suspension, double exhausts and new 15", six-spoked alloy rims through which red brake callipers are just visible. Most of the boy racer stuff is placed inside the car---front bucket seats, a three-spoked sports steering wheel with aluminum trim, silver dials, vents and sills as well as silver foot pedals.

And of course since it’s a Volkswagen vehicle expect for it to have some luxury stuff, such as tinted windows, a transponder immobiliser, front-loading CD/MP3 player with four speakers, child-proof door locks, remote-controlled central locking and an alarm.

People at VW SA’s Citi R-line launch could not remember just how many variants of the Citi have been made. But one thing is certain this one is the most sporting yet. As a matter of fact just firing up the car leaves would make you wonder whether you are riding a modified car because it idles with that roarty, lumpy growl that comes when somebody massaged the motor’s innards. Rev the car and it spits out a racy bellow that would make the whole neighborhood to scream at you but who cares you can always go speeding away.
