Overview

Even from a distance you cannot help but recognise a Volkswagen and the Polo is no exception. Very much like a scaled down Golf it still exudes quality, its circular headlamps and bold grille defining its solid shape.

Inside the Polo, perhaps one could argue that the decor is a little dark but again, you get what you pay for - and the overall quality shines through. Also for a small car there is ample cabin space.

Driving

The VW Polo is easy to drive and park so is ideal for city living. Essentially, it is designed for the driver who wants a car that is reliable, safe and comfortable (perhaps not for the sporty). In addition to its city driving credentials the VW Polo is more than capable on the motorway. It also has a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, so there is something to suit everyone. Consider though, that a number of the low power units would have to be said to be more suitable for driving in the city. However, the higher capacity vehicles are superb all-rounders and are refined, quiet and easy to drive at speed.

Buying - What To Look Out For

As with any car that has been driven for a large part of its life in the city, it is worth paying close attention to evidence of any kerbed wheels, uneven tyre wear and of course - parking dents on the bodywork. On a test drive the suspension should be comfortable (listen out for any nasty clunks) and the brakes responsive (beware the soggy variety). The engine oil should be clean and the interior clean and tidy.

Is It For You?

In conclusion, the VW Polo is easy to drive, reliable, robust and comfortable. It is also deceivingly spacious. On the downside, maybe not for the motorist looking for a more exciting drive.
